Chad and the Central African Republic have a history marked by the recurrence of socio-political crises, the consequences of which are disastrous for the neighboring country of Cameroon. Indeed, these countries have for several decades experienced episodes of violence forcing thousands of people to take refuge in Cameroon. It should also be mentioned that this asylum, which constitutes a serious problem for the host country in the sense that the socio-economic integration of refugees is damaging the socio-professional landscape. This reflection tackles the problem of the increase in underemployment relating to the massive presence of the Chadian and Central African refugees on Cameroon’s soil. However, the underlying objective of this concern is to analyze how the presence of refugees worsens the employment market in Cameroon. To answer this question, we employed a multidisciplinary approach. The quantitative method was of major importance in this study, given that we surveyed a large number of people, namely refugees, host populations, administrative authorities, and NGO staff. This allowed us to obtain the results that refugees represent serious competition for local job seekers, as they dominate the informal sector.
