Academic Achievement Between the Cognitive Abilities and the Emotional Competencies of the Learner

Exploring the processes of learning and acquiring knowledge from within the research in the psychology of intelligence, has been represents a kind of integrated dynamic system in which the learner’s knowledge and mental competences interact with his various emotional and affective states. After the interest of psychologists was focused on exploring cognitive functions, and determining its role in the learner’ mental functioning, in order to improve his cognitive performance and raise his academic achievement; recognition has recently begun of the decisive and influential role played by emotional factors, in improving the learner’s cognitive processes and improving his school learning. Accordingly, this article aims to highlight the development of scientific research with regard to discover the manifestations of the relationship between the components and characteristics of mental functioning and academic achievement, through a critical evaluation reading of the results and conclusions of a group of empirical studies, in various cultural and educational contexts at the global level.
