Announcement of Disability and Its Psychological Effects on Mothers and the Effectiveness of the Supportive Psychotherapeutic Program «Support Therapy» in Alleviating These Effects
This study aims to identify the effectiveness of supportive psychotherapeutic treatment in alleviating the psychological effects resulting from the announcement of disability among mothers. The announcement of disability leads to various psychological effects, such as the development of depressive tendencies in the mother. This quasi-experimental study was conducted on a mother of a child with a disability, utilizing a clinical approach, case study, semi-structured interview, and the Beck Depression Inventory. We aimed to highlight the effectiveness of supportive psychotherapeutic treatment in reducing depression in the mother after the disability announcement. After applying the supportive psychotherapeutic treatment program, and by comparing the pre-test and post-test results of the Beck Inventory, a significant improvement was observed in the mother. The results of the pre-test of the Beck Inventory were completely different from those of the post-test. This was evident in the reduction of the depression score in the research sample. This indicates the effectiveness of supportive psychotherapeutic treatment in alleviating the severity of depression in the mother after the announcement of the disability. The importance of the study lies in it being an opportunity for mothers to express the psychological effects they experience as a result of the announcement of the disability. It sheds light on the child’s environment, especially the mother, due to the close relationship between them, and allows for a deeper understanding of her psychological suffering.
