The Risk of Urban Inundation and the Planning Problem Tetouan as a Model

Urban areas have developed at an accelerated pace due to population growth and rural immigration. The impact of this fast-track development affects social, economic and environmental stability. This requires an appropriate approach to achieving a sustainable urban planning process.

Environmental risks are one of the most serious causes of urbanization, which is getting worse especially with environmental and climate change. The danger of flooding is also associated with most urban centres located along the banks of valleys, or crossed by the transversal or longitudinal tributaries of the main valleys.

The Martil plain is one of the areas has undergone rapid urban expansion, despite the risk of flooding, which has worsened in recent years. Natural and human factors are leading to flooding in the region.

These obstacles hinder development projects and town planning, which requires studies on the efficiency of development projects. In addition to identifying areas at risk of floods, as well as linking responsibility to accountability.
