Mechanisms for Managing Water Resources Scarcity in Oasis Systems: Asrir and Tigmart of Guelmim Province

The article discusses how water scarcity is being managed by the people living in the oases of Asrir and Tighamret in the Guelmim region, in the face of climate change and the drought crisis affecting the area. The study used a descriptive-analytical method to identify variables related to the study’s subject, along with a cartographical approach using the ArcGIS 10.4 program, and field sampling.

The study revealed that the management of water resources in the region is challenging due to the climate, which is characterized by drought, and the decrease in rainfall that has led to a reduction in Springs flow. This problem has been worsened by human communities’ intense exploitation of water for agriculture. To manage water resources efficiently and ensure the sustainability of these areas, customary methods and laws were devised to regulate and rationalize the use of water.

Despite the natural environment’s fragility and the scarcity of water, the study concluded that the people in the region have managed water resources sustainably and rationally through customary mechanisms. The study suggests that stakeholders should take measures and strategies to protect water resources in the field of study and overcome the constraints they face.
