Linguistic Definitions Between Sterility and Ambiguity A Study in Research Methodology

In this study, we address a common issue that many researchers face: the tendency to rely on linguistic definitions of terms, concepts, and expressions in academic work. These definitions, which often appear at the start of most scientific papers, have become a longstanding tradition, passed down through generations. However, we argue that this practice does little to support scientific research. It can often lead to greater confusion and vagueness. We aim to raise awareness about this methodological challenge, highlighting the limitations of using linguistic definitions and demonstrating why they are ineffective. Additionally, we propose alternative approaches that could improve the quality and clarity of scientific research, taking it to a more advanced level. This article explores several key questions, which we address through an analytical research methodology, including: How do linguistic definitions contribute to the ambiguity of research? What alternatives can be used to ensure more systematic and rigorous research? And what value does this article bring to Arabic language researchers regarding methodology?
