Interaction Between Person and Non-Person: Deictic Dynamics and Enunciative Construction in Cinematic Discourse
This study examines how cinematic enunciation is constructed through the mechanisms of personal deixis and non-personhood, highlighting the central role of subjectivity in both the production and interpretation of filmic discourse. Starting from the premise that every enunciative act entails a subjective positioning situated within a specific spatial and temporal framework, the analysis explores how the pronouns I, you, and he/she structure dialogic exchange in film narratives and contribute to the representation of the enunciative instance within a medium where expression is always mediated by a collective of creators. Adopting a primarily theoretical approach grounded in enunciative linguistics, the study mobilizes the concepts of personal, spatial, and temporal deixis while examining the relationships between speaker, addressee, and fictional enunciative figures. This framework sheds light on the multiple transformations of the speaking subject, particularly the shift from an I as enunciator to a you as addressee within the intradiegetic space, as well as how the non-person he/she—lacking direct situational anchoring—can assume varied meanings depending on the narrative context. The findings reveal that filmic subjectivity rests on three interdependent axes: personal deictics that establish intersubjective relations, temporal frameworks that organize sequences of speech acts, and spatial frameworks that situate interactants within the cinematic world. Together, these dimensions enable the real speaking subject to be transformed into a fictional instance shaped by the demands of cinematic narration. Ultimately, this research underscores the importance of personal deixis in filmic enunciation and opens avenues for further inquiry into spatial and temporal deixis, essential for a fuller understanding of subjectivity and spectator interpretation in cinema
