Integrating Experiential Learning Pedagogy into School Curricula to Enhance the Prevention of Natural Risks and Disasters in Morocco: The Case of the Japanese Experience
In September 2023, Morocco witnessed a devastating earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region, leaving hundreds of victims and severe damage to infrastructure and homes. This earthquake is added to the record of other natural disasters that Morocco has experienced in recent decades, such as the Agadir earthquake in 1960, the Al Hoceima earthquake in 2004, and the waves of locust infestations, drought, and floods… The Al Hoceima earthquake represented a starting point for serious thinking about risk management in general, and it was highlighted On the shortcomings recorded in the management of natural disasters. To confront these risks, Morocco recently adopted an ambitious and constructive “national strategy” aimed at improving the management of natural disasters, but it marginalized an important aspect of the management and management of these risks and disasters, which is the “educational awareness aspect” linked to the preventive approach before the disaster occurs. This research paper emphasizes the necessity of adopting appropriate pedagogy in educational institutions for education in the management and management of natural disasters. In this regard, the researcher tried to present the most important advantages of the “experiential learning pedagogy” that Japan applied to mitigate the effects of disasters and natural risks, and to provide students with ways to deal with this type of risk. The researcher behind this article aims to emphasize the necessity of integrating this pedagogy into the school curricula. By presenting its components, contents, and ways to invest it in classrooms by providing realistic examples inspired by the Japanese experience.
