Impacts of Risky Behaviors among Young People on Tunisian Society

This study examines the growing prevalence of risky behaviors among young people, including violence, delinquency, irregular migration, religious extremism, and social alienation. These challenges arise within a broader context of social instability and high unemployment, which threaten the cohesion and future of Arab societies. Youth extremism, in particular, is shaped by a complex interplay of social, economic, political, and cultural factors, as well as by processes of socialization and education. By exploring the mindset that drives young individuals toward extreme forms of violence—such as fanaticism and terrorism—this research employs innovative analytical approaches to understand their concerns, perceptions, and lived realities. It seeks to identify the underlying causes of escalating aggression, especially in Arab and Tunisian societies, and to assess the role of unemployment in exacerbating these tensions. Key questions include whether social and economic instability directly contributes to these behaviors and how the social sciences can offer meaningful solutions. This study emphasizes the importance of long-term development strategies, employment opportunities, and social initiatives in curbing youth violence. It highlights sociology’s crucial role in diagnosing and addressing these issues while advocating for interdisciplinary collaboration to better understand and respond to youth behavior in an evolving society. Furthermore, it underscores the potential of modern information and communication technologies in promoting balanced perspectives and resilience among young people. Ultimately, the study calls for stronger coordination between governmental institutions and civil society to implement effective interventions that reduce youth violence and foster social stability across Arab societies.
