Argumentation and Education on Values in Philosophy

This article aims to reveal the potential of values education, particularly those intertwined with interpersonal relationships, which consists of establishing relationships with others in adherence to the principles of respect, openness, rejecting bigotry and dogmatism, discussing opinions, solidarity, and embracing diversity… Given the multifaceted nature of these potentials within the broad scope of values education in the education and training system, we have identified them based on a cognitive/didactic perspective focusing on argumentation in the field of philosophy. This is because of the effectiveness of argumentation, whether during the approach to philosophical texts or during the moment of discussing philosophical concepts… This would positively reflect learners’ acquisition of values that make them active and rational citizens, defending their opinions and accepting others’ views based on the logic of arguments and communication etiquette. However, it is acknowledged that evaluating the presence of values in philosophy lessons is challenging due to their abstract, universal, and normative characteristics, necessitating the respect of specific procedural parameters, dimensions, and evaluative indicators.
