The role of space in modern novels has been significant in creating a deep discourse that follows the trace of fact. Novels have always been the face of society’s literary presentation, with the novelist expressing their views on a particular subject they find concerning, hoping to bring about change.

This letter is about the relationship between reality and literary works, and whether novels, as a literary genre, are capable of revealing reality through their treatment. While space is known to contribute to literary works, it becomes an urgent matter in some works, such as “Diary of a Blind” by Hamid Rakatta. This novel is set in the capital of Moyen Atlas, Khounifra, and focuses on a blind character who sends a message to the governor to take care of this socio-cultural ancient city.

This letter aims to explore the use of space in the novel, focusing on semiotic ideology. We will examine the dichotomy terms of “vacating and temporality,” which Grimas referred to as “here and there.” We will study the narrative programs that extract the vacating types by looking at the change from one situation to another through the steps of the narrative way. Achieving the narrative program’s self-factor through an approach of different spaces is essential.

The historical rooting is relevant to the investigation during the depicting discourse to set of space signs and the temporality that aims to produce the meaning of the trace of “reality.” Writers and readers share the reality expressed in literary function, regardless of the nature of this expression. The importance of the recent study of the novel is to be in time and geographically near to the reader. Through the study of space, we can find a trace of reality in the novel, and this is what we will explore through the semiotic study of space in the novel, “Diary of a Blind.”
