Cultural Interactions, Connected Society: Redefining Identity in the Era of New Technologies

This article explores the redefinition of identity in the era of new technologies and cultural interactions in a connected society. We examine the convergence of intercultural interactions, social relations, and digital advancements to reveal how these elements reshape individual and collective identities in a rapidly evolving contemporary landscape.
Our research builds on previous work and adopts a deeply interdisciplinary approach, combining sociology, cultural anthropology, and media studies to deeply examine these complex dynamics. As a crucial element of this transformation, social media is reshaping social and cultural ties, raising questions about the nature of online identities and their correlation with physical interactions. We used a methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative approaches, such as participant observation and digital data analysis. While previous research has examined the impact of intercultural interactions and social media on identities separately, our study offers a holistic and connected view of these elements.
Our results highlight how digital interactions shape our perception of ourselves and others, highlighting the mutual learning of cultural exchanges and the diverse effects of digital technologies on social cohesion and the promotion of cultural diversity. These results deepen our understanding of the challenges of identity in a hyperconnected context, highlighting the crucial importance of authenticity in global exchanges. Our conclusion highlights the tensions between intercultural interactions and new technologies, revealing a rich cultural diversity. While intercultural exchanges promote mutual understanding, they pose challenges in opening up to global exchanges and preserving local identities. Technological advancements, on the other hand, significantly impact human nature and social structure, redefining our modes of interaction and generating new forms of connection and expression. Social media, in particular, play a central role in promoting cultural diversity by facilitating virtual exchanges between individuals from all walks of life. However, they introduce challenges such as the superficiality of online interactions and the social pressure to present an idealized self.
