Education, Training, and the Sustainable Development of Women in Southern Madagascar
Women’s empowerment is today a crucial issue for sustainable development. This article analyzes the role of education and training in strengthening women’s empowerment within the most vulnerable areas of Madagascar. The study focuses on the Atsimo-Andrefana, Anosy, and Androy regions, where persistent inequalities in access to learning opportunities continue to limit women’s advancement. The research relies on a qualitative approach combining direct field observations and a rigorous analysis of secondary data. This methodology highlights both structural barriers and opportunities for social transformation for women in these territories. The findings reveal that poverty, geographic isolation, and local sociocultural norms represent the main obstacles to girls’ education. However, when aces sis secured, education proves to be a powerful driver of change: it enhances skills, facilitates professional integration, increases autonomous income, and strengthens women’s decision-making power within families and communities. Women’s empowerment goes beyond the individual sphere, becoming part of a global dynamic of sustainable local development. By reducing gender disparities, education fosters inclusive growth. Future quantitative research would be highly valuable to precisely assess the long-term economic impact of these training initiatives on regional development.
