The Influence of Communication and Media on Young People’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Behaviors in Tunisia
This study examines the influence of communication and mass media on young people’s sexual and reproductive health behaviors within the context of Tunisia’s evolving demographic policy. It focuses on the mechanisms through which young people’s behaviors are shaped and regulated, with particular attention to the role of media and communication in promoting awareness of sexual and reproductive health. The study also explores young people’s sexual and reproductive health behaviors in both school and non-school settings, as well as their main sources of information and knowledge. The findings of the field study highlight a significant need for greater guidance and support for adolescents, particularly in response to gaps in educational and healthcare services. Furthermore, the results underscore the importance of conducting further field-based research to better identify young people’s concerns regarding sexual and reproductive health and to understand their expectations of healthcare institutions and related services. The study concludes that direct communication with young people can constitute an effective educational approach to promoting healthier behaviors. Such an approach should be grounded in a comprehensive understanding of young people’s concerns and needs and supported by both participant and nonparticipant observation. Overall, strengthening communication, health education, and youth-oriented services is essential to enhancing sexual and reproductive health awareness and encouraging healthier behaviors among young people in Tunisia.
