The Effect of Psychological Well-Being on Emotional Intelligence among Secondary School Students

This study examined the relationship between psychological well-being and emotional intelligence among high school students and explored potential gender differences. Using a descriptive causal-comparative design, the study involved 100 students, equally distributed by gender. Data were collected using Ryff’s 18- item Psychological Well-Being Scale and the 33-item Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale. Statistical analyses revealed a significant positive relationship between psychological well-being and emotional intelligence, indicating that higher psychological well-being was associated with greater emotional intelligence. However, no significant gender differences were found in either variable. These findings highlight the importance of promoting psychological well-being and emotional skills through school-based programs to enhance adolescents’ social adjustment, psychological functioning, and academic success. The study also contributes empirical evidence on the relationship between psychological well-being and emotional intelligence and provides a foundation for further research across diverse educational and cultural contexts.
